THE CHEVALIER D’ÉON:THE 18TH CENTURY TRANSGENDER SPY (BBC)

The Chevalier d'Éon was an 18th Century French nobleman, trusted spy to King Louis XV, and for the last 33 years of their long and colourful life, a woman.

The story of d'Eon's life is certainly complex, involving palace intrigue, secret spy rings, celebrity culture and a challenging of traditional gender boundaries. The meaning of d’Eon’s transformation has been analysed and debated for centuries but the legacy of their life feels more relevant today than it's ever been.
